From 28 to 31 December 2012 Capalbio Cinema International Short Film Festival is back, the international showcase dedicated to the short film, directed by Tommaso Mottola and organized by Associazione 3d in collaboration with the Fondazione Sistema Toscana.

This year, in the frame of the new and very promising New Year, as hope for addressing the new year of innovation, there will be a focus all dedicated to Maps of new cinema and the Islands of the Treasury!

In a world of ideal geographic maps that delineate the new borders of visual imagery, the nineteenth edition of Capalbio Cinema focuses its attention on the Far East. After the success of the focus of the film in North Africa and the Middle East in 2011, this year the attention shifts to the Far East. There will be works from Japan, Singapore, Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia and China. Capalbio Cinema opens a window on Asia and tries to outline a perfect treasure map of what are the new trends, the hopes and fears of the filmmakers of that area of the world. For the first time in Italy there will be a festival of short films from the Far East.

Among the most significant works Beautiful 2012, in which four of the most famous Asian directors, Kim Tae-yong, Tsai Ming-Liang, Gu Changwei and Ann Hui, starting from a reflection on the definition of “good”, tell us about confronting change and the crisis that come to us from the East. Their short films can be read as the maps of our future and the changes to which we are called to pay attention. Society changes and the short film keeps track of the transformations.

It’s in this context that the alliance with Asiana should be read, the best festival of short films from the Far East, and with Florence Korea Film Festival, which has been promoting Korean cinema in Italy.

These are the sections of Capalbio Cinema 2012: The international competition, section A World Of Maps 2, which is a mapping of the world with the most creative shorts. #West #Meets #East, a focus on the New Cinema of the Far East. A section curated by Enrico Ghezzi, Ghezzi meets Captain Sparrow.
