The Festival and the association Molise Cinema were born in 2003 with the intent to bring back  cinema in small countries, particularly inMolise, a region poorly served by screens and fruition structures. The festival aims to promote the latest and most innovative productions of Italian and international cinema, focusing on the young writers and new languages.

The seventh edition has an articulated and busy schedule, for six days of intense and spectacular film and beyond. The competitive section “Villages in short” gives us an overview of the world of the very current international short film, with many Italian and European premieres, while “Paths” is the competition dedicated to Italian titles. As well as “Frontiers”, the competition for documentaries, opens his eyes on the latest film of reality. The films in the square, in the picturesque arena night Casacalenda, presenting an overview of the latest Italian cinema quality. The screenings are accompanied by meetings with some of the most active directors in the Italian auteur and independent scene: Giulio Manfredonia, Alessandro Piva, Vincenzo Marra, Gianfranco Pannone, Marco Simon Puccioni, Marco Amenta, Gianfranco Rosi … And then Elio Germano, new talent of Italian cinema, who performs as a musician with the group the “rare beasts”.

The exhibition on the cinema of the great Tony Vaccaro, along with retrospective Carlo Montuori, cinematographer of The Bicycle Thief and the neorealist cinema, celebrate two great molisani masters of cinematographic image. The windows on the world, represented by the focus on migration, the exhibition curated by the Argentine independent film festival of Mar del Plata, the project “My Room” on young people of the Mediterranean, the initiative on Africa in collaboration with AMREF, promote cinema as instrument of dialogue between peoples and cultures.

And, finally, a dense series of events at the border and beyond cinema: video art, presented in the Municipal Gallery of Contemporary Art Casacalenda and other venues; the concerts inspired by the musical themes of the great cinema installations in the center of the country promoted by Kalenarte, the blob copyright of Manyg, books, “after the festival” with video and music and much more. And then an initiative to launch a cry of alarm about the dangerous cuts to culture and movies that are taking place in Italy. At the end of the festival, the MoliseCinema will start as usual,  and this year will touch Lupara, San Giuliano di Puglia, Guglionesi …

Habemus cinema, with Molise Cinema!

Good views, good fun.
